Ship Reviews - Oasis of the Seas
Oasis of the Seas Review
..and shares her thoughts/experiences here....
What was your first impression of Oasis
of the Seas?
My first impression was ‘Wow’! Embarkation was the smoothest and fastest I’ve ever
experienced and in the first few hours on board I had so many jaw-dropping moments.
Oasis of the Seas has an incredible number of firsts including the Rising Tide bar that moves
between Decks 5 and 8, an old-fashioned wooden carousel and Central Park, complete
with more than 12,000 living plants and trees. How many cruises have you taken before
this one?
One or two cruises each year for the past 12 years. What were the highlights of this cruise?
Oasis of the Seas delivered on all my expectations and more. She is by far the
largest cruise ship ever built and carries more passengers than any other, but it didn’t feel like
it. Separating the ship into ‘neighbourhoods’ means that you only need spend time in the
parts of the ship that interest you. And the smallest details have been thought of. For
example, touch-screen technology in every lift foyer ensures that you always know where you
are, what’s on at any time around the ship and how to get to where the action is – all at the
touch of a button! What type of cabin did you have and what
was it like?
We had a Standard Oceanview cabin with balcony and it was perfectly comfortable for
two people, with a queen-size bed, a sitting area, flat-screen TV and wireless laptop
connection. The décor was very appealing with cool and refreshing blue and green tones. The
bathroom, while not large, was very well laid out, with a circular shower. How was the cuisine and dining?
There are an incredible 24 dining options on board Oasis of the Seas, so trying them
all on our cruise was impossible. That said, we did see most of them and we enjoyed
meals at several of the included restaurants. A favourite was the Park Café in Central Park.
At lunchtime you can choose your own salad ingredients and the chef will toss and dress
them to order. Very impressive, very fresh and very tasty! And although we didn’t dine there,
150 Central Park looks amazing. It is the ship’s signature restaurant offering a degustation
menu with or without matched wines. The tables for two have the most intriguing peapod
shaped chairs. What was the entertainment like?
Again, we were spoilt for choice when it came to the onboard entertainment. In a
few short days we saw the Broadway musical Hairspray (a first at sea), an ice-dancing show
of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale classics, an ABBA tribute show, stand-up comedy, a
fabulous, young, jazz ensemble from Adelaide and the most amazing aqua-theatre display
with acrobats, tumblers and divers.
Did you have a favourite neighbourhood?
By far, my favourite neighbourhood was Central Park. Not only is it staggering to
have such a space at sea, but it is also a stunning place to be. By day, and in the
evenings, it buzzes with people and activity, as many of the specialty restaurants are
located here. People pop down for a walk, to eat or just to sit on the park benches or
comfy outdoor furniture and watch the world go by. Then, by night it is transformed
into a magical fairyland. What better way to end a fabulous night than to wander home
to your cabin via the park, under subtle lamplight, with a warm, gentle breeze
blowing and the stars above. How would you describe the overall
experience on Oasis of the Seas?
It was an incredible honour to be among the first travel agents and media worldwide
to experience the ship. And it truly was an unforgettable experience. Like Queen Mary 2
before her, Oasis of the Seas brings a whole new dimension to cruising. Her sheer size
and magnitude, the incredible technologies that have been adopted on board, really set
her apart from any other ship in the world. She is so well thought out, beautifully
designed and impeccably decorated. Would you recommend this ship to clients?
Absolutely! The ship really is a destination in itself. There is so much to see and do
on board that seven days won’t necessarily be enough. â
