Autumn in Japan - September 2017

Japan will mesmerise you with its mix of sacred traditions, breathtaking temples, tranquil gardens, pulsating cities, super-fast trains and futuristic technology. It’s a fascinating country of contrasts you must experience at least once. Our exclusive, escorted tour by land and sea showcases all the wondrous sights, sounds and aromas guaranteed to make Japan one of the most rewarding destinations you’ve ever visited.

Two nights amongst the neon lights, imperial palaces and grand temples of Tokyo begin our Japanese journey, including a visit to the bright lights of the famous Ginza shopping district and a lesson on how to make sushi. We then board our deluxe, floating resort, Diamond Princess, for a 9-night circle cruise around Japan including the feudal castles and gardens of Aomori, the Samurai culture and virgin beech forests of Akita, the cosy teahouses and bustling seafood markets of Toyama and the hot sand baths and springs of volcano-flanked Kagoshima in the south. We also visit Busan in South Korea where, in Buddhist culture, drinking tea is treated as a form of calming meditation. Try it for yourself.

Disembarking back in Tokyo, the next chapter of our exotic adventure unfolds with a 4-night overland tour beginning with a ride on the scenic Komagatake Ropeway which offers views of Japan’s spiritual heart, Mt Fuji. An exciting 320 kilometre per hour Bullet Train ride brings us to the ancient, cultural capital of Kyoto with its dazzling shrines and temples. An apprentice, kimono-dressed geisha will perform elegant dances for us during a Maiko performance and we’ll also join time-honoured tea ceremonies and feast on delicious, local cuisine such as sushi, tempura, soba, ramen and sake. Before flying home, we visit one of Japan’s most photographed landmarks, spectacular Osaka Castle, and ascend the heights of the amazing Umeda Sky Building Floating Observatory overlooking Osaka.

You’ll be hosted by Cruise Express the whole way, with all the details of this luxurious tour looked after. Record numbers of Australians are now enjoying the wondrous allure of Japan and our previous hosted tours to this beautiful country, with its warm and gentle people, have booked out with glowing reviews. We hope to share the magic of Japan with you in 2017.

Diamond Princess

As one of only two Princess Cruises ships built in Japan, it’s not surprising this exotic gem can often be found sailing to the most intriguing vacation destinations abroad. Great-tasting cuisine can be found throughout, including at the popular Italian restaurant, Sabatini’s®, where freshly prepared pasta creations reign supreme. In the elegant dining rooms, you’ll find sommeliers to help you enhance your meals with paired wines. Poolside, hand-tossed pizza is available just out of the oven and, as an added bonus, both Movies Under the Stars® and The Sanctuary®, a tranquil haven exclusively for adults, have recently been added to Diamond Princess!
